Tsum valley is a beautiful valley lying at the base of the regal Ganesh and Sringi Himal at the northeastern part of Nepal. It is locally known as “Beyul Kyimolung”, which means the ‘holy hidden valley of happiness’ in the Tibetan language. The valley possibly got this name from the legend that the Buddhist saint Padmasambhava founded this valley to provide shelter for the people fleeing from war, famine, and religious persecution.
The tiny hamlets in the valley has a population of roughly 4000 people of the ethnic group ‘Tsumbas’ who still follow the ancient and exotic Tibetan culture prevalent for hundreds of years. The valley has lush pine and rhododendron forests, quaint Tibetan villages, and breathtaking scenery. Tsum valley is a restricted tourist area and requires a special permit from the Nepal government to trek in this region.
